ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College tennis teams did not lose a set in whipping Southwest Mississippi Community here on a cool, breezy Tuesday afternoon.
Both the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats won by 9-0 scores.
The Lady Bobcats improve to 11-1, while the men’s team is now 9-3.
JCJC will host Holmes at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and Co-Lin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday (men’s match only).
Lady Bobcats 9, Southwest 0
Erica Walker and Rachel Whaley of JCJC defeated Lisa Hedges and Morgan McKee, 8-6 in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, J.J. Benson and Meredith Johnson of Jones blanked Erin Mitzenberg and Eleanor Eckman, 8-0. JCJC’s Rebecca Rogers and Jillian McNeese took No. 3 doubles by forfeit.
Walker downed McKee, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, while Whaley defeated Hedges, 7-6 (4), 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Johnson beat Mitzenberg, 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 singles, with JCJC’s Mary Carole Kiewit defeating Eckman, 6-2, 6-0 in No. 4 singles. Tiffany Hudson of Jones won No. 5 singles over Kristen Brison, 6-0, 6-0 and Rogers took No. 6 singles by forfeit.
Bobcats 9, Bears 0
Casey Dykes and Tyler Shows of Jones won No. 1 doubles over Matt Henegan and Dylan Boyd, 8-2. Mitchell Smith and Nathan Kanengiser of JCJC took No. 2 doubles over Josh Yawn and Drew Stone, 8-2. JCJC’s Cody Kadoun and Eric Lynn claimed No. 3 doubles over Stuart Abel and Eli Whitaker, 8-5.
Dykes defeated Henegan in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Shows blanked Yawn, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Smith won No. 3 singles over Jake Easley, 6-0, (retired because of injury). Kadoun downed Stone, 7-5, 6-2 in No. 4 singles. Lynn downed Abel, 6-0, 6-1 in No. 5 singles and Kanengiser defeated Boyd, 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles.
