by Kyle Reynolds Writer/Editor When one walks into Premier Fabrics, located at 1732 Frontage Road not far from the McDonald's on Frontage Road, one is immediately struck by the color: a full spectrum of hues on dozens and dozens of racks throughout Premier's spacious showroom. That's the Premier look. Bursting with color and vibrancy, Meridian's newest fabric store is awash in all kinds of fabric, both decorative and functional, in all sorts of patterns. Whatever your fabric or furniture needs, Premier Fabrics can meet them. "We are a Mississippi based business and we hire Mississippi people," says Carol Brady, manager of the Meridian branch of Premier Fabrics. "We are also a family business, started by three brothers, Zeke, Johnny, and Billy Hodges, back in February of 1991 on Carnation Street in Tupelo, and our primary office is still in Sherman, Mississippi, right outside of Tupelo, and that's where we do much of our work from. Our store in Meridian is the fourth Premier Fabrics. We started with five employees and now we have over thirty. In the early days, we were doing screen printing on a Reggiani rotary screen printer that only printed six colors. Originally, the primary business was furniture, then it expanded to decking, and then cotton prints. Now we have a Stork rotary screen pigment printer that handles up to 12 colors." And Premier Fabrics supplies a personal touch that some fabric stores might not. For instance, are you interested in custom upholstery jobs? If so, Premier is the place for you. In fact, the word "custom" could be Premier's middle name. In addition to quilting and ribbons, they do custom sewing, custom furniture, custom bedding, custom head boards, custom dorm boards, custom prints, and custom drapes. "We do virtually any kind of upholstery job, including helping the client create their own furniture," says Mrs. Brady. "And for furniture options, we have wingbacks, Elvis chairs, Anne chairs, Charlie chairs, and chaise lounges. We do a lot of custom work with baby bedding, as well as grown up bedding, of course, and monogrammed pillows, curtains, and we can even help you coordinate your furniture and decor. And we do custom monogramming on head boards and chairs as well." Besides the huge selection of fabrics and the range of work available, what is a particular point of pride? "It's our customer service," says Mrs. Brady. "We understand that our customers are our top priority and we spend the time with them so that they get what they want for their decorating needs. We want the client to be happy, first and foremost. We pride ourselves on our customer service. We go out of our way to please our customers by trying to match fabric, and we will even try to match fabric by sending off samples to our suppliers.
