Mr. Smith was the owner of WMOX Radio. He was a member of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Smith was born in Greenwood in 1935. He moved to Meridian in 1962 to become Sales Manager for WMOX Radio Station, later he became the general manager and then owner of WMOX. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jane Smith of Meridian; daughter, Robilyn Pettit and her husband, Jeff, of Kingwood, Texas; sons, Ed Smith Jr. and his wife, Patti, of Ellisville, Bill Smith and his wife, Shay, of Meridian, Bob Smith and his wife, Kim, of Meridian and Jonathan Smith and his wife, Mary, of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Jesse Mouton, Zachary Rothwell, Jennifer Pepper, Jeffery Pettit, Caleb Pettit, JoEllen Pettit, Kendal Smith, Whitney Smith, Reagan Smith, Mason Smith, Irene Smith, Rosemary Smith, Conner Smith, Owen Smith and Harper Grace Smith; great granddaughter, Avery Lynn Pepper; brother, Bobby Smith of Meridian; sisters-in-law, Wini Smith of Nashville and Sue Allen and her husband, Henry, of Vernon, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Billie and Edna Smith of Greenwood; daughter, Kathy Rothwell; brothers, Frank Hart Smith and Whit Smith; and grandson, Jay Holland. The family requests memorials be made to the Wesley House and Grace Fellowship Baptist Church.
