“Yes, I would just like to encourage everyone to please continue to buy the Jasper County News. It would be very, very sad if the same thing happened to our little home town newspaper what happened in the Laurel Leader Call. There’s so many people who don’t have access to computer or don’t have the technology to read–well, to keep up with the events on the internet and on the computer and really look forward to getting that paper in their mailbox every month, so please just continue to support our local paper. Thank you.”––Female

“I was calling in response to the caller that was talking about how ridiculous it was to have a park in town, actually a third park. Um, I wish people like the caller would get up off of their laurels and do something instead of sitting back and making negative comments about people that try to do something for the town, and as far as the parks not being used, every time I drive by the one across from the City Hall, uh, I usually see people in the park playing, older kids and so forth. From what I understand, the new park is made more for younger children. So, instead of calling and complaining, why don’t you get up off of your behind and get involved and try to make Bay Springs a better place to live for everybody.”––Female

–––––––––––––––––––––

“This call is in response to the lady last week who told people not to call in or use a public forum if they can’t speak correctly or have anything positive to say. To that, I encourage you all to call in. That’s the best part of this paper, mistakes and all.”––Female

“Yes, I was calling about the park, the new park that’s going up in the middle of Bay Springs. I think it’s very ridiculous to have a third park when no one uses the ones that we have unless there’s benefits and stuff, which are good causes. I noticed the new park equipment that’s going up today, and once again, that’s the most ridiculous thing. That’s prime real estate in the middle of town which I think can be used for better things. Thank you.”––Female

––––––––––––––––––––

“If you can’t speak proper English, nor write it and be positive, then do not Talk Back to any public forum, including a newspaper.”––Female

––––––––––––––––––––

“Ah, yes, I think that it is very nice that Stringer has a golf team, but wouldn’t it be even nicer if Bay Springs had one also? Just an opinion.”––Female

––––––––––––––––––––

“Yes, I’ve noticed an ad in the newspaper about hiring a new librarian at the Bay Springs Library. I thought the town had just hired one recently. Um, the library’s a pretty vital part of a small town, and when you have job growth, you have new families moving in the area. Wouldn’t it be wise to have a library that the Town of Bay Springs could be proud of? That would take a commitment from the community and the city leaders. Let’s encourage those who are in charge to think about the future of our libraries and hire who is part of our community and cares about our children. Thank you. Bye bye.”–-Female

––––––––––––––––––––

“Selling alcohol on the Lord’s day is total disrespect. That just goes to show you what kind of men we got–Christian men we got running this town, which is none. I hope the Lord deals with each and every one of them. Thank you.”–-Male

“The new restaurant, the new seafood restaurant, Big O’s has been a great success. I just love their shrimp. Uh, I haven’t tried their crawfish yet, but I am–I hope that they do good.”––Female

––––––––––––––––––––

“My child came home talking about, um, that they love the little fun day that the high school had had. I just wondered why they didn’t have it for spring break and, like, at the end of the school year, not before state tests but after state tests. They can do them all three, but I just want to know because I am eager and my child loves–they came to the house talking ‘bout how they love the fun day, and they wish they have it again, but Imma talk to the principal and see. Go Bay Springs High School.”––Female

––––––––––––––––––––

“The Town of Louin is rising. They got––we got a Fast Stop. I wonder if Dollar General coming in. Stringer got one. Are we getting one? And, um, I think we need a new restaurant and everything else, just bring some business into Louin. When business come to us, I’m pretty sure that more people will come to Louin, too–not only Bay Springs. And we got more land where we can put more businesses out here, but people don’t see it. But it’s just on option.”––Female

“To the Jasper County Sheriff Department,  please, please hurry up and find out who is doing all this killin’ in Jasper County. I live in the Oak Bowery Community. And, please, I don’t want to be next.”––Male

––––––––––––––––––––

“I think it’s bad when you can start buying beer everywhere in all the stores before long and you can’t find any marijuana anywhere. I think it causes a lot less damage than alcohol does.”––Male

––––––––––––––––––––

“I just want to say that I attended Relay for Life this past Friday, and I want to say that it was real nice. I like how things were set up, kinda like Bay Fest. I think it was a success.”––Female

“Oh, is my tongue placed firmly in my cheek. I’d like to add my voice to those multitude of people complimenting the Bay Springs city progress, let them know how pleased I am with their decision to sell alcohol with their drink and on Sunday, too. Now when we take our pastor out to lunch on Sunday after the morning service, we can hoist a few while killing time waiting for the evening service. Perhaps later they ought to have those little electronic poker machines to be put on the counters and tables to help us pass the time while we’re sipping our beer waiting on our burger. My grandmother would be so proud of the progress by her home town. Cheers.”––Male

“It’s should be against rules for schools to force students to leave a bathroom door open. It is invasion of privacy, especially when you can actually see everything a student does with the door open. Schools should give students enough respect even if they cause trouble. They should have  privacy in the bathrooms. Leaving the doors open only makes student uncomfortable. They should put a bathroom monitor to watch the bathrooms instead of making students leave the door open.”––Male

“I was just wanted to say something about the aldermen voting in to sell beer and wine in the cafes here. Our little town doesn’t need that. And I think the two that voted against it is the only aldermens we need. We need to make a clean sweep of the rest. And then selling alcohol on Sundays is wrong. They’re all just for the money. It’s not for looking out for their kids or anything. They just want the money that it’s gonna bring in. And I’m disappointed that the aldermens did that.”––Female

––––––––––––––––––––

“They say the Sumrall man now gone sell beer in Bay Springs on Sundays. Last time I bought a beer it taste the same on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. I couldnt tell nare’a bit of difference than what I bought on Sunday. Thank you.”––TalkBack Jack

––––––––––––––––––––

“Good afternoon, Talk Back. Well, the Jasper County Tioch Association held its wonderful banquet fundraiser last night over in Bay Springs. And of course, last year, we had a number of politicians who showed up, seeking votes of course. Last night, we didn’t see any. Only one: Ashley Lewis from Rose Hill. Well, we will remember you guys come November. Hope you having a great Easter. Good bye.”––Female

––––––––––––––––––––

“Hey, I’m sorry it took so long for me to call in about this, but I just seen my daughter’s pictures from the Sylva-Bay beauty pageant and it reminded me. I wanted to thank Mr. Shoemake for changing the pageant up so much this year. It was the best pageant we have had in years and years. I think splitting the nights really helped and the pictures were gorgeous. There was less confusion. They was more quiet. I really enjoyed the pageant and I really hope Mr. Shoemake continues to make those positive changes. Thank you.”––Female

“Um, yes, I was calling about the new playground going to be put up in Bay Springs. I just think that the playground should be upgraded in the City Park and utilize the money to go towards that instead of building a new one because that road to the City Park is isolated from major roads that people fly on all the time. I’m just concerned about the kids’ safety.”––Female

“Yes, I think selling alcohol on the Lord’s Day is wrong, but I guess money is more important these days ain’t it? Thank you.”––Male

“Um, hey. I am a major supporter of Bay Springs High School Band and, um, I just love the way they perform, and they play rap. They play children tune, all kinds of things. I just love Bay Springs High School Band. [illegible]. I know they had a rough start, but I know that we can do it. Go, Bay Springs High School Band.”–-Female

“Uh, yes, to the Board of Supervisors that covers County Road 8 in the Moss Community, it is a shame that those roads are in that kinda condition. You all put that black tar on the road and its humps and holes and everything else in the road. It’s damaging people’s cars. You need to go back and redo the road or get out of position. Thank you. Have a blessed day.”––Female

–––––––––––––––––––

“I agree with the gentleman in last week’s Talk Back about the sportsplex. Is the money that’s going to the park gonna hurt the sportsplex? They’ve been talking about building a sportplex here for years. We have a growing, uh, number of children playing in the West Jasper little league association. We need a decent place for them to play. We’ve got two parks that we already have and I think the park’s a good idea, but let’s get the sportsplex built first.”––Female

–––––––––––––––––––

“Uh, yeah, I’m concerned about the money that’s being spent in Bay Springs. I gotta go by the gazebo in Bay Springs on my way home everyday and I see work begin done, adding walkways and a park area. The area is pretty and all, but don’t nobody ever go there ‘cept those who cut the roses. I ain’t never seen, not one time, a person just sitting in that park. It’s a real pretty place to look at and be proud of but don’t nobody use it. And y’all should know this. It’s in the middle of town.”––Female
